Tropical Temptations1978 - 1991
During the late 1970s my husband lived and worked in Miami, Florida while I taught at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. During the first three years of this body of work I traveled by air every weekend to Miami, where we had another house and I rented a studio. My studio happened to be in the prostitution section of Biscayne Boulevard near 79th street. I parked my car in front of my studio door to avoid confusion that might ensue if I had walked there. The work that came out of this location reflected the open sexuality that was all around the city on Miami in those days. I made cast paper objects form real life objects, plants and people. This work also picked up on the colors and moods of the tropics. Much of this series was shown and sold by the Barbara Gillman Gallery in Miami.
